Waning Moon shortly after being full. The photograph shows the dark, more or less round Mare Imbrium (Sea of Rains) at upper centre, with the vast, irregular dark area of the Oceanus Procellarum to its left. The small, very bright white spot within the Oceanus Procellarum is the crater Aristarchus. Copernicus is the bright, rayed crater immediately below the Mare Imbrium, and Tycho is the bright rayed crater towards the Moon's south pole at bottom.
