Assurbanipal is credited with establishing the first systematically organized library at Nineveh.


Assurbanipal (also spelled Ashurbanipal) was the king of Assyria, and the last king of the neo-Assyrian Empire. He ruled for 42 years, dying in 627 He is credited with establishing the first systematically organized library. He did so at Nineveh, which is across the Tigris River from present-day Mosul in Present-day Iraq. It contained thousands of clay tablets and fragments - many have been uncovered by archaeologists.
