Snout rounded, 3 to oj times in length of head; eye 3J (young) to 5J times in length of head, interorbital width 2f to 3 times; mouth inferior, its width 4 to 4J times in length of head; lips much developed, lower continuous across the chin, forming a rounded median lobe; two barbels on each side, anterior as long as eye or slightly longer, posterior 1^ to IJ diameters of eye (not longer than eye in very young). Dorsal IV 8 (rarely 9), equally distant from eye and from root of caudal, border concave; last simple ray strong, bony, not serrated, ^ to f length of head (as long as head in very young).
