Michelangelo's classical and world famous sculpture of David stand in the Galleria dell' Accademia in the Tuscan city of Florence in Italy. The statue appears colossal when viewed close up, at 17feet high. It was carved Michelangelo was only 29 and established him as the foremost sculptor of his time. Originally the statue stood in front of the Palazzo Vecchio but was moved in 1873 to the Accedemia to protect it from the weather and increasing pollution. A replica stands on the original site today.
