Richness isgained by intermediate bars, scrolled at the ends, with water leaves, and opening centrally into a lozenge. This is, however, not a very characteristic example of RobertAdams work. A number of his designs are preserved in the SoaneMuseum, and show an extraordinary mastery of details within thelines he had laid down, for frequently there are three or fourrough alternative sketches for the treatment of even a simple gateof small cost. His designs for entrances are sometimes majestic, but rely for their effect either entirely, or chiefly, on the masonry. Plate HOUSE AT BAKER STRliET, ENFIELD. >
