The semicircular space for thespectators, which rises opposite, is in a much more dilapidatedcondition; the tier* of seats have almost entirely vanished. Theacoustic arrangement of the structure is admirable. Words spokenin a loud and distinct voice on the stage are perfectly audible onthe highest tier. Scanty remnants of a Circus adjoin the height above the theatre, once occupied by the citadel ofOrange which was destroyed by Louis XIV., affords a good surveyof the neighbourhood.
