Borsang Umbrella and Thai Handicraft Village, Thailand


Bor Sang Village Chiang Mai is a long-time producer of some of Thailand's most beautiful umbrellas. The village specializes in making umbrellas of saa paper, of cotton, and of silk fabric -- all of which are found locally. These umbrellas have for a long time been popular souvenirs and decorative items as well as making impressive. The tradition of saa paper dates back two hundred years ago. Apparently, Burmese hill tribe villagers were the first to notice that the bark of the mulberry tree peels away naturally. They found that they could use it to create a beautiful paper without destroying the tree
