DNA research. Stoppered vials and a vial rack on a DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid) sequence or fingerprint. Also seen in the image is an automatic pipette at lower left. DNA is the molecule found in all cells which contains the genetic hereditary material. Here the DNA has been sequenced into rows of irregularly spaced bands. The bands represent the positioning of the four base pairs in the DNA molecule which make up the genetic code unique to every person. DNA samples can be taken from blood or other body tissues. The sequence's unique nature means it can be used to identify paternity and criminal identification.
