Between 1518 and 1519, the Italian master painter Raphael painted "The Construction of the Temple" (pictured in this line drawing), Solomon's temple in Jerusalem for what is known as the Raphael Loggia in the Vatican. According to the hebrew Bible, Solomon was a king of Israel, son of David. His temple on Mount Moriah housed the Ark of the Covenant.
