Proustite crystals. Proustite (silver arsenic sulphide, or silver sulpharsenide) occurs worldwide in silver mines and is considered a primary ore of silver. It is a rare but spectacular mineral, notable for its intense crimson hue. However, it becomes dull black and opaque on exposure to oxygen, as with the sample shown here.
