Focke Wulf FW44 Stieglitz wartime German trainer biplane

The FW44 Stieglitz was the first truly successful design to come from Germany's Focke Wulf factory. Many hundreds were built and it was sold to other countries around the world. It served throughout World War 2 and most Luftwaffe pilots learned to fly on this machine. This one was built at Bremen in 1937 and exported to Argentina, where it remained until 1989, when it returned to Europe. Photographed at the Shuttleworth Trust, Old Warden, Beds, UK
