WWI - A 1916 portrait of New Zealand born pilot 2nd Lieutenant Alfred de Bathe Brandon RFC C 1883 – 1974) - Companion of the Distinguished Service Order (DSO), who attacked the raiding zeppelin L15 on March 31st 1918. - Brandon of the British Royal Flying Corps, received a Military Cross for attacking and damaging the zeppelin, forcing it to crash into the sea. He was also awarded the British War Medal (1914-1920) and the Victory Medal with oak leaf. Brandon had studied law at Trinity College, Cambridge, UK, before returning to Wellington to work for his father's law firm
