A new school, part of La Courondelle development on the outskirts of Beziers in southern France.
La Courondelle is a new district being constructed on the northern side of Beziers. When completed it will contain approximately 700 dwellings together with local services, schools and parks. There will be two neighbourhoods with extensive landscaped areas. The development is intended to meet an urgent need for extra housing while curbing urban sprawl and providing a new focus for the northern part of the city. The photograph shows the school in the development which will have 12 primary classes, 10 kindergarten classes, a daycare centre and the usual cafeteria and administrative facilities. The school is being built to meet the requirements for High Environmental Quality (HQE) and energy-efficient buildings using low impact construction techniques, photo-voltaic cell energy production and landscaping with vegetation adapted to the Mediterranean climate.
