Father.—Charley, if yon wish to know the size of anacre, cut 144 pieces of paper one inch square, and placethem on the table; this is called a square foot. To make a square yard, place 9 single squares in asquare, which is just the size of the table. To make a piece of land the size of the grass-plat inthe door-yard, it will require 30^ square yards, which iscalled a square rod. Forty square rods is just one rood, or a quarter of anacre of land, and is the size of the the road inwhich you see the sheep. Four such lots contain 4 roods of land, and is called anacre.
