Photolithograph published in The Builder Vol 64 1st April 1893 of the stained glass window by Percy Bacon and Brothers installed in the west of the new baptistry of Manchester Cathedral in 1893. The window theme is Baptism by Blood, Water and Fire and is illustrated by the martyrdom of St. Stephen, the baptism of Christ, and the descent of the Holy Ghost at Pentecost. The works were carried out under the supervision of the Diocesan Architect Joseph Stretch Crowther (1820 - 1893). The window was destroyed in a German bombing raid in December 1942 during World War 2.


Percy Bacon (1860-1935) was a stained glass artist. He set up his company, Percy Bacon and Brothers in Newman Street, London, in 1892. Later in 1917 the company was liquidated and he continued to produce windows and other ecclesiastical furniture and decoration under the name Percy Bacon Limited until its closure in 1933.
