Flue gas desulphurisation plant. Pile of gypsum (calcium sulphate dihydrate) crystals at a fossil fuel power station. Gypsum is a byproduct of the flue gas desulphurisation process that removes sulphur dioxide from the exhaust gases of fossil fuel power plants. It is recycled as a raw material in the building industry where it is primarily used as a constituent of plaster. Photographed at the EDF power plant in Le Havre, France.
