The head of a diorite statue of the Egyptian king Khafre, from his mortuary temple at Giza. Behind him is the the god Horus, epicted here as a falcon, using his outspread wings to protect Khafre, who ruled during the Old Kingdom. Khafre was the son of Khufu, who built the Great Pyramid. Khafre built the so-called Second Pyramid at Giza.
