At any rate, to allintents and purposes, Jimmie Dandy was hisname—the only name to which he his mother had finally accepted it, al-though it in no way corresponded with thename by which she was known. It was easierto do this than it was to hold to the real name,and Jimmies mother was more inclined to re-duce than to increase the hardships of life. In a sense, the name certainly was appro-priate.
