Sori amphigenous or on the petioles, on yellowish spots, minute, roundish, usually circinate, at length confluent and forming large orbicular clusters up to 1 cm. diain., at first compact, then pulverulent, dark reddish-brown; spores broadly ellipsoid or subglobose, rounded at both ends, not thickened above but surmounted by a minute subhyaline apiculus or pore-cap, not constricted, smooth, bright chestnut- brown, 28—32 X 18—26 [x, the cells often depressed { broader than long) and frequently oblique ; pedicels short, hyaline.
