The proposed Sainsbury's store in Meols Cop had been delayed for 7 years due to planning protests, but work has finally begun on the new supermarket. Foundation works going on for the new Sainsbury's store being built at Meols Cop Retail Park replacing the Homebase store that was there before. As well as the supermarket, there will also be a petrol station, a public recycling facility and new car parking. The planning application to build the mega store at Meols Cop Retail Park was first submitted to Sefton Council in 2015 but was delayed after several legal challenges.
