Gilbert Baker caught a 21-inch, 3%- pound pike June 14. Can Raymond Kester do any better? J. Otto Thilow was a judge at a nearby rose show June 14. It is reported that the Florex Gardens will plant Asparagus plumosus heavily the next season. Fhil. ST. Loms. The Southwestern Market. The local cut flower market had a good week, as the demand of the re- tailers was quite large, owing to much graduating work and a number of fash- ionable weddings. The season is con- sidered practically over for social work of any kind. The growers all say they are in a bad way for rain, and field stock is suffering much for the want of a heq,vy downpour. All outdoor cut stock coming in shows the effects of the dry spell. In looking over the stock last week we found plenty of everything seasona- ble, but the quality generally was poor and prices suffered greatly. Roses are in great demand. Killarneys are in the majority. Carnations are small, but the best commanded $3 per hundred. Sweet peas were more plentiful than the previous week and the demand excellent at all times. Gladioli stacked up greatly last week. The dry weather is holding them back. Valley and Easter lilies cleaned up almost daily. There were a great many asters in the market, and the demand was good.
