Dr. Hayes and I were almost the only persons on board of the Advance, who, at this time, (about tLe middle of May,) enjoyed perfectly good health. Dr. Kane wished to send an expedition across the Sound to examine the coast north- ward of Gape Sabine. This attempt had been made several times without success, owing to various accidents or want of energy on Vt- pari cf those who undertook the task. Dr. Ha; .,*» and I, finding ourselves ir^ very good health as aforesaid, cheerfully agreed to make another effort to carry out this project, the chief pur- pose of which was to determine the position of the Cape,.
