Colourful group of Sculptures at Vrijthof Maastricht Netherlands
‘t Zaate Hermenieke at Vrijthof square Maastricht, is a sculpture of five carnival musicians, commemorating the musical bands and orchestras that spontaneously get together and walk the streets at carnival time. They all gather at Vrijthof on Fat Tuesday every year, to celebrate the end of Carnival. The originally bronze statues, designed by Han van Wetering in 1993, were treated with a colourful polychromatic coating, during the general renovation of Vrijthof square and put back here in 2005.
