Flash Mob Global Pillow Fight in Leicester Square, London

A flash mob (also spelt flashmob, flash-mob) is a sudden gathering of people at a particular place and time, organised by e-mail or through Internet groups and networking sites. They do something together for a short period of time (in this case have a pillow fight) before dispersing equally rapidly. Usually people wear normal clothing so as to be inconspicuous before and after they are a flash mob. Mostly - like this pillow fight - they are done for fun, but some political campaigns have used flash mobs to demonstrate - notably those opposed to expansion of London Heathrow, who have organised flash mobs on the opening day of T5 and at the Department of Transport in Westminster. These protesters took off coats to reveal their 'Stop Airport Expansion' red t-shirts as a part of the flash mob. Flash mobs have also been used as advertising stunts. This flashmob was organised internationally over the Internet, with events in other cities around the world following the London one, which was due to kick off at , but started just a little early.
