PAPER STOCK CO. chicaoo, ilhnois DETROIT MICH. The Market. Business has been changeable, like the weather, the market showing a surplus one <lay and a scarcity the next. This has. its effect on both wholesaler and re- tailer. The retailer in booking orders ahead is likely to be disappointed by the price he must pay and consequently feels ill-disposed toward the market and the wholesaler. Eoses are of best quality and if not cleared the first day they are sure to be the next. White Killarney is an ex- ception. It is not of good quality and not in oversupply. The staple varieties, such as Ophelia, Columbia, Russell and Hoosier Beauty, are the first to be sold and they bring a good price at this sea- son of^the year. Short roses are scarce. American Beauties are good and, com- pared with other roses as to price and quality, in better demand. Carnations are plentiful, the best quality naturally being somewhat scarce. Tulips are in great quantity and the price remains steady, some bringing as high as $10 per hundred. A few gladioli reach the market each day, but as yet there is no demand for them. Iris, baby gladioli, calendulas, poeticus, myosotis and mignonette are to be had. Peonies are plentiful, but do not seem to be as strong as other years as to de- mand. Peas have been poor in quality and high in price. Various Notes. The Michigan Garden Club held its annual tulip show at the Hotel Statler May 24. Local florists also had exhib- its. It was better than ever. The fea- ture was the exhibit of the new, beauti- ful red tulip, Pride of Haarlem. J. Carey, of Mount Clemens, is send- ing in the best tulips this market has ever seen. They are about three feet lone
