The figures, so frequently recur-ring on the walls, of dancmg women are alsocommonly called Bacchantes; but accordingto more modern inqiiirers this is a are mere human dancers, perhaps,belonging to the lowest classes of society,executmo- some of the mimic dances ofantiquity.
