Navy Airman Derek Thorton connects cargo pendants on the flight deck of the aircraft carrier USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN 71) during a vertical replenishment as the ship operates in the Persian Gulf on Jan. 28, 2006. The cargo pendants fasten cargo nets full of supplies to helicopters for transfer from ship-to-ship. Roosevelt and its embarked Carrier Air Wing 8 are conducting maritime security operations in the Persian Gulf. Thorton is a Navy aviation ordnanceman.
