The family is represented by three genera and four species: Brachycythere longicaudata, B. sicarius, Pterygocythere lanceolata, and Ponticulocy there bi- remis. Only Brachycythere occurs in the Campanian and Maastrichtian (both species are inherited from the Santonian), whilst Pterygocythere and Ponticu- locy there are restricted to the Maastrichtian.
