Ava Josephine McAmis (1910-1984), American chemist. McAmis worked as a tutor at the University of Texas while studying for her master's degree. Her work led to a position at Yale University, Connecticut, where she earned her PhD in chemistry. Eventually she returned to her home town of San Antonio, Texas, where she became a faculty member of San Antonio College.
