Grimwas a boy of seventeenlivino- with his father on afarm near Mecha, Pennsyl-vania. At the hrst call forthree months men, he triedto enlist, but was rejectedthree times on account ofa,^e. iMually he was ac-cepted in Company D,Fifth Pennsylvania Cav-alr\-, Cameron Dragoons,at Paoli. Pennsylvania,July 30th, 1861. Heserved in that ret;imentuntil December. i86t,when he was dischargedfor disability by reason oftyphoid fever. He re-enlisted August 4th, 1862,in Company D, 124th Penn-s}lvania, and served until the muster out of the , 1863. On June 17th, 1863, he re-enlisted in the 29thPennsylvania Volunteer ]\lilitia. Colonel Joseph W. Hawley,commanding, and served until the regiment was then entered the United States Military Construction Corps,and while serving in that department was captured l)y Mosebysguer
