My services were men-tioned in official orders for the Peninsular Campaignas well as those at Fredericksburg and Chancel-lorsville. The inscription, however, onthe medal is as follows : The Congress to Colonel Jacob G. Frick,129th Pennsylvania Volunteers, fur distinguishedbravery in the battles of Fredricksburg, Va.,December 13, 1862, and Chancellorsville Va.,May 3, 1863, General Tyler, commanding 1stbrigade, 3rd division, 5th corps, says inhis official report of the battle of Fred-ericksburg:. Colonel Jacob G. Friok. f •• Colonel Frick discharged his duty mostcreditably and satisfactorily, his voice beingfrequently heard above the din of battle, urging his men forward against a terrible shower ofshot and shell and terrific musketry as he approached the stone wall. Of his conduct Icannot speak too highly. At the battle of Chancellorsville. Va,, May 3, 1863, Colonel Frick withthe 129th Pennsylvania Regiment, being on the left of the brigade, occupieda most conspicuous position, and wras brought into action where the heaviestfighting was done. Frenchs division was on his left, but the nature of theground was such that Colonel Frick felt justified in occupying a moreadvanced position. After holding this position against superior numbersamid a furious fire until many of his men had fallen, and long after the troopsthat
