2nd Lt. George H. Lyon of the 69th Infantry, also known as "Col. Bill Hayward's Old Fifteenth," arrives home on the steamer Stockholm, docking at Pier 55, North River, New York City. The regiment was recruited mainly from the area of New York City known as "San Juan Hill" and was greeted by a large delegation of African Americans. The regiment was decorated with the Croix de Guerre. Col. William Hayward commanded the 69th Infantry. This photo was taken on March 10, 1919 and passed the MID censor. (37359)
