Voluhnteer working at the Irvine Gleaning, Big Sunday community outreach project benefiting the Second Harvest Food Bank
Second Harvest Food Bank helps to feed thousands of hungary people in all kinds of important ways. One of the great and unusual ways to do this is by community gleaning. Volunteers go out into the field to harvest fruits and vegetables that may have been missed in the original harvesting , and bring them back to be distributed to needy families thourgh Orange County. The eighteen acres of land where volunteers glean was donated by the Southern California Edison Company. Water for crops is provided for free by the City of Irvine. These eighteen acres of land produce over 1/2 million pounds of year of produce for the county's poor.
