The Gothic mock castle gate-house folly built circa 1819 at Baile Mhic Airt Lower in An Rinn, County Waterford, Ireland

The Gothic mock castle built as a gatehouse around 1819 at Baile Mhic Airt Lower in An Rinn, County Waterford, Ireland was one element of the plans to develop and Member of Parliament for Waterford at Westminster between 1832 and 1870. The plans for An Rinn were abandoned and the romantic, moody and abandoned folly surrounded by wintry trees is now a farm building sharing a field with a Mass rock used in mid-17th century when Catholic Mass was deemed illegal in Ireland. This image of the mock castle appears in "Irish Follies and Whimsical Architecture" by George Munday and published by O'Brien Press in Dublin.
