Elm Sphinx is sometimes known as the Four-horned Sphinx because the caterpillar appears to have 4 horns. The caterpillars can be varying shades of green, bluish green, and brown. Like most sphinx caterpillars it spends it life upside down and underneath the vegetation on which it feeds. Note the remarkable resemblance of the caterpillar markings to the undersides of the leaves. This is a superb example of crypsis/camouflage.
