Mr. Steve Kerrigan, co-chair for the Presidential Inaugural Committee, discusses upcoming inaugural events with Air Force Brig. Gen. James P. Scanlan, deputy for inaugural support, Joint Task Force - National Capital Region, during the Inaugural Reception on Nov. 20, at the Fort Lesley J. McNair Officers' Club. The JTF - NCR commanding general, Army Maj. Gen. Michael S. Linnington, hosted a reception to facilitate relationship-building among key decision makers for the Presidential Inaugural Committee, Joint Congressional Committee on Inaugural Ceremonies, Interagency Partners and JTF - NCR members providing support to the 2013 Presidential Inauguration. JTF-NCR is a joint force command, composed of members of all five of the United States armed services that will coordinate ceremonial support activities of more than 5,000 service members slated to take part in the Presidential Inaugural Parade and other events during the 2013 Inaugural Period. The tradition of military participation in inaugural events started April 30, 1789, when members of the Army, local militia units and Revolutionary War veterans escorted George Washington to his first inauguration ceremony at Federal hall in New York City.
