To this is at-tached four incandescent lamp sockets equi-distant from oneanother, and connected with a socket on the outside of the board with the lamps attached can be easily removed forchanging the lamps or cleaning them. This is the apparatusin its simplest form. It can be improved by adding a switch which will be auto-matically closed when the printing frame is pushed in place, and opened when the frame is slid out. A further improve-ment can be made by an electrician, whereby an alarm clock is 174 introduced and so arranged that it can be set for a certainnumber of minutes or seconds, when it will automatically cutofif the current and stop the light, and thus avoid the necessityfor watching. This is especially convenient when using densenegatives which require a long time of exposure. A man with a few tools, and a little ability at carpentry, canmake the above in a single evening, including connecting up. Fig. 1 the sockets and placing the switch. The cost is trifling. Thesaving in paper will very quickly pay for the apparatus. Thecost of electric current need not be considered, for it is notmore than would be used if one light were used. A few holesshould be bored in the box below the ground glass to ventilateand carry off the heat from the lamps. 175 AN AID TO THE PRODUCTION OF GOODQUALITY BROMIDE PRINTS By FRANK E. HUSON.
