He was engaged in the battles of Cross Lanes, Winches-ter, Port Republic, Cedar Mountain, and Antietam with hiscompany. In December, 1862, he was detailed as teamsterin the ordnance train, and issued ammunition to the firingline in the battles of Chancellorsville and Gettysburg, and inthe campaigns through Tennessee and Georgia. In the bat-tle of Winchester he was struck by a piece of shell andstunned, but recovered in time to join in the pursuit of theHying enemy. July, 1864, he was mustered out, at the ex-piration of the term of service, with the remnant of his com-pany, at Cleveland. Ohio. He afterward enlisted in theNinety-eighth
