DUNWICH SUFFOLK ENGLAND DUNWICH ON THE SUFFOLK COAST WAS ONCE ONE OF THE MOST IMPORTANT PORTS IN ENGLAND DUE TO COASTAL EROSION WHICH STARTED IN THE MIDDLE AGES THE WHOLE TOWN AND IT S MANY CHURCHES HAVE DISAPPEARED BENEATH THE NORTH SEA ONLY ONE HEADSTONE DATED 1796 SEEN HERE ON THE CLIFF EDGE SURVIVES FROM A CHURCH GRAVE YARD AS WELL AS REMAINS FROM DUNWICH GREYFRIARS A MEDIEVAL 13th c FRANCISCAN FRIARY THE SHINGLE BEACH IS BEING ERODED AWAY BUT FISHERMEN STILL GO TO SEA EVERY DAY TWO GERMAN ARCHITECTS ANNE NIEMANN AND JOHANNES INGRISCH HAVE SUBMITTED A PROPOSAL TO BUILD A MONUMENT TO THE SIX LOST CHURCHES OF DUNWICH OFF THE COAST
