The Airmans Grave. Ashdown Forest, East Sussex, England, UK.
The Airman s Grave is not in fact a grave but a memorial to the crew of six in a Wellington Bomber of 142 Squadron which crashed on the Forest on its return from a raid on Cologne on the morning of 31st July 1941. The memorial which is a simple stone-walled enclosure shelters a white cross surrounded by a tiny garden of remembrance and was erected by the mother of Sergeant Sutton who was aged 24 at the time of his death.
