The shopping mall Fisketorvet and the Harbour Bath Fisketorvet in the south inner harbour of Copenhagen. A harbour canal cruise boat moored at the mall to embark and disembark passengers. Copenhagen Copencabana Harbour Bath is part of a system of recreational bathing facilities along the waterfront of Copenhagen with pools, towers, and a lifeguard. There are currently four harbour baths, the first and best-known of which is the Islands Brygge Harbour Bath. For many years discharge of wastewater from sewers and industry had major impact on the water quality in Copenhagen harbour as it was heavily polluted with sewage, algae, industrial waste and oil spills, etc. from commercial harbour transport. Municipal investments in modernisation of the sewage system and an expansion of waste water treatment plants, to remove nutrient salts and minimise discharge of heavy metals, has revitalised the harbour of Copenhagen. In 2002 Islands Brygge harbour bath opened in the area of Islands Brygge, making Copenhageners among the few people in Europe able to bathe in their harbour without jeopardising their health. An established online warning system calculates and monitors the water quality in the harbour. The harbour baths are generally open all days of the week in the bathing season. In the event of unusually strong rains, sewage water may spill into the harbour and cause pollution with E. coli bacteria, closing the harbour baths temporarily. Such a closure normally lasts for a couple of days until tidal flux has changed all the water. Water quality is being monitored and reported on a dedicated web site.
