In the autumn of this year, for the first time in thehktory of the Protestant Churches in the United States,delegates appointed by the highest ecclesiastical as-semblies or conferences of bodies, representing de-nominations whose aggregate membership is over seven-teen millions, will meet in New York City for mutualcounsel and federated action regarding matters of com-mon interest. This great Inter-Church Conference will directly andindirectly, represent a considerable proportion of the. E. B. SANFORD, ,Gen. Sec. National Federation of Churches. home and family life of our country and their religiousaffiliations. If the number of employes and those con-nected with labor unions, found in the membership ofthe churches represented in this Conference, could becorrectly enumerated, it would be a surprise to many. Its message touching the relation of capital and laborcannot fail, therefore, to interest the entire it will hold up a high ideal of brotherhood andplead for the spirit of the Christ in solving the difficultquestions that grow out of present industrial conditions,we cannot doubt. These questions, in spite of all representations to thecontrary, rest heavily upon the thought and heart ofthose who have official and ministerial leadership in thechurches.
