An officer's sabre "à l'allemande", circa 1790. Massive Damascus blade with broad fullers. The lower third of its length etched, blued and gilt, displaying trophies between vine decorations on the obverse side, and an ancient-style warrior with the motto, "Vaincre ou mourir" (conquer or die) on the reverse side.
