I must confess that w4ien I first took up this work, there was no hint or suggestion that so many hens had defective egg- producing organs; and I believe this is the first book which has attempted to point out a way to detect and de- termine these defects. My first booklet, entitled "Don't Kill the Laying Hen," was made short and concise, so it might be easily under- stood. Many important points were intentionally omitted pending further investigations, as I did not want to ad- vance any theories until I had carefully tried them out myself.
