Snout rounded, 1^ to 2^ times as long as eye, which is lateral and 41 to 7 times in length of head ; interoibital I'ig. Tetrodon pusttdatus. Old Calabar. |. region feebly convex, about \ length of head ; no nostril, but two nasal tentacles on each side, measuring about ^ diameter of eye. Dorsal obtusely pointed, 11-12. Anal rounded or obtusely pointed, 9-10, opposite dorsal. Pectoral rounded-subtruncate, f to -J length of head. C'audal truncate, as long as or a little shorter than head. Caudal peduncle |- to § length of bead, 1§ to 2 times as long as deep. Head and body with minute spines, except on snout and on caudal region; laieral-line system represented by very distinct furrows. Brown above, with or without darker spots, and with red, black-edged ocelli, which may be numerous or few and confined to the sides ; tins and lower parts whitish. Total length 340 millim.
