Evershed astronomical expedition. Man and woman reading the mail from England while on an astronomical expedition to the tropics. This photo is part of the papers of the English astronomer John Evershed (1864-1956). Evershed undertook several expeditions abroad. The most famous was to Kashmir, India, in 1915, where he made the first observations supporting the prediction by Albert Einstein that the wavelength of light emitted by the Sun is increased by the intensity of the Sun's gravity.
