A trial was made of the effect ofopening the door in the end, during which the pres-sures were very greatly increased and the suctionsnearly disappeared. The area of the door wasabout 15 per cent, of the area of one end. It isplanned to make further tests under these conditionslater. Correction of Data. There were two sources of measurable errors, forwhich correction factors were computed and error due to the change in the scale was com-bined with the error due to variation in the diameterof the tubes and bottles. The factors are given inthe table following. The glass tubes used in these experiments werethe ordinary glass tubes supplied to chemical labora-tories, and these were found to have not only varia-tion of diameter but curvature as well.
