. The American journal of roentgenology, radium therapy and nuclear medicine . exists made by a pre\iousoperation, the abdomen can be puncturedat any other point, it being in conformitywith the rules of asepsis. A long and thinplatinum needle is introduced into theabdomen. Having ascertained that blooddoes not flow, the needle is connected witha tube which brings the oxygen throughthe apparatus shown in Figure i, and thisis passed in rather slowly. According tothe flaccidity of the abdominal walls afterthe introduction of 300 to 800 cm. of oxy-gen, the oscillations produced by the res-piratory movement can be seen in themanometer of the apparatus. Once havingclearly seen these oscillations, I continueinjecting oxygen until the distention isconsidered enough. The volume of oxygenintroduced varies from 2 to 8 liters accord-ing to the size of the patients abdomen, the flaccidity of the walls, etc. This accom-plished, the patient is in condition to be ments by himself—that these must bemade with the apparatus which we willdescribe later. Having concluded the roent-. FiG. 76. Small cyst of left ovary; hydrosalpinx of rightFallopian tube. genological examination of the patient, the oxygen must be withdrawn. In orderto do this, I introduce through the firstpuncture a trocar made of platinum witha silver sheath, the diameter of which is 278 Pneumoperitoneum
