NW corner of the nave of St Andrew's Church, Greensted, Essex, reputedly Saxon (845 or 1060+), built of oak logs split lengthwise & mounted vertically

The NW corner of the nave of Greensted church, Essex, built of oak logs split lengthwise & mounted vertically. Reputedly Saxon (845 or 1060+), heavily restored 1847-8: original wooden cill replaced by brick, Victorian versions of Tudor dormer windows inserted in to Tudor tiled roof which replaced the original thatch. Church reputedly founded c 654 by St Cedd as a wooden chancel or sanctuary with the palisade nave added c 845. A dendrochronology date obtained in the 1960s confirmed this but was re-dated in 1995 to c 1060-1100 which, if accurate, makes it immediately pre- or post-Conquest.
