Theships of war of the ancient Egyptianswere not generally of great size, at leastin the early times of the 18th and 19thdynasties, when they had a single rowof from 20 to 44 or 50 oars, and weresimilar to the long ships and π€ντη-κόρτΐροι of the Greeks, and the galleysof the Mediterranean during the middleages. Some were of much larger dimen-sions.
